Did you know that everyone loses hair daily? Both males and females lose about 100 strands a day. They fall out, then they grow back in, and the cycle continues. Hair loss is a process that happens naturally for each and every one of us every day, hair falls then grows back again, it’s not a big deal. However, for some people, that’s not the case, and eventually, a lot of people start losing hair more than before and it’s not growing back. That’s when it becomes a problem. As many as 85% of men will have some sort of baldness in their lifetime. It can happen for different reasons. A lot of females also experience female-pattern hair loss during the aging process.
#1. Baldness’ causes and early signs
Baldness is a condition caused by genes you get from your parents, and your parents get it from their parents, so that means it’s a genetic problem. Common types of baldness are male pattern baldness for men and female pattern baldness for women. Normally, People have 100 to 150 thousand hairs on their head. The number of hairs normally lost in a day on average is 100. To maintain our hair, the same number of hairs must be produced a day to maintain the same volume. The first signs of hair loss are more hairs left in the brush after brushing, noticing areas of thinning while styling your hair, and also observing more hairs than usual left in the shower after using shampoo.
#2. Baldness And Psychological Distress
Hair Thinning And Baldness cause psychological distress. For most people, hair is considered a strong part of their identity. Especially for women, it is considered a symbol of femininity and attractiveness. Men associate their hair with their youth and beauty. Losing hair can cause huge mental distress and changes in body image. Some people who experience hair loss may find themselves in a situation where their physical appearance doesn’t match their own self-image.
#3. Common Hair Loss Types
1) Female pattern baldness also called androgenic alopecia. Hair loss in women is normal, especially as they age This might seem hard to believe, but up to two-thirds of women experience hair loss, and a third of the women make it past age 60 with a head full of hair. Female pattern baldness is likely caused by hormones.
In female pattern baldness, the process of hair growth slows down. This means it takes too long for the hairs that fall down to grow back up, and when they do they grow thinner and weaker. This can cause them to easily break. You are more likely to have it if either of your parents does, or even a close relative. There is no other clear cause of female pattern baldness other than Hormonal imbalances due to genetics.
2) Male pattern baldness is also called androgenic alopecia, and it’s the most common type of hair loss in men.
Male pattern baldness may be linked to a genetic allergy towards DHT and not DHT itself. When testosterone levels increase, DHT levels also increase. Some men have an allergy to this androgen called DHT. DHT triggers an allergy in the hair follicles causing them to shrink and make thinner and weaker hair. So thinking that high testosterone levels cause baldness is a myth, well, testosterone plays a big role in increasing DHT levels, but the problem is 100% genetic related which causes an allergy.
